Soviet Union
Crushing the European mainland with iron will, endless tanks, and the shadow of the Iron Curtain.
The Soviet Union is one of the two playable factions in Command & Conquer: Red Alert. In the game's alternate history, the Soviet Union grows powerful under the rule of Joseph Stalin after the erasure of Adolf Hitler from the timeline. The USSR seizes land from China and invades Eastern Europe, aiming to stretch across the entire Eurasian landmass. The Soviet forces battle the Allied Nations for control over the European mainland. Their vehicles tend to be more durable and powerful than Allied vehicles, but are usually slower-moving and more expensive.

Lore & Background
The Soviet Union's military doctrine emphasizes durability and raw power over speed. Their vehicles are more durable and powerful than Allied vehicles, but are usually slower-moving and more expensive. They possess superior defensive capabilities against ground attacks with Flame Towers and weaponized Tesla coils, the latter able to destroy most Allied armour in 1-2 hits, though it has very high power consumption. The Soviets' main weakness is at sea; their only offensive naval unit is the submarine, which is normally invisible except when surfacing to attack. They have a wide selection of air units: the Yak-9 plane for strafing infantry, the MiG-23 strike fighter (erroneously depicted as a MiG-29 in cut-scenes) for heavily armored vehicles and buildings, and the Mi-24 Hind helicopter gunship effective against light and heavy targets. The Soviets also have access to periodic map revelation through spy planes and can deploy infantry by air through paratroopers. In the latter half of the Soviet campaign, they have access to periodic airstrikes from Badger bombers. The Soviet secret weapon is the Iron Curtain, a device that renders a selected unit invulnerable to attacks for a short period of time. The Soviet 'tank rush' was a popular strategy online, involving building many heavy tanks and overwhelming the opponent with sheer numbers.
In Their Own Story
In the game's plot, the Soviet Union grows powerful under Joseph Stalin after Einstein erases Hitler from the timeline. The USSR seizes land from China and then invades Eastern Europe. In the Allied ending, following the siege of Moscow, an Allied platoon discovers Stalin buried alive in the rubble of the Kremlin. As they begin attempting to remove the debris, General Stavros unexpectedly enters the room and stops them. He 'convinces' them that they saw nothing and orders them to leave the premises.
Reader's Guide
When playing as the Soviets, focus on building power plants to keep up with electricity demands, as high-powered installations like radar and Tesla Coils will not function without sufficient power. Power plants are often the first to be targeted in a base attack. Build additional ore refineries and ore trucks to mine resources faster; excess unspent credits require storage in ore silos. Use engineers to capture an opponent's critical damaged structures, allowing you to produce units from that structure even if not part of your own faction. In multiplayer/skirmish, Soviet countries consist of Russia (lower costs) and Ukraine (faster movement speed). In online play and computer skirmishes, the Soviets have access to two of the Allied side's infantry: the Rocket Soldier and Tanya.
